Often it has been said that true visionaries are born before their time; not the case with Kenny Curry, for his season and moment have come. Minister Curry has taken life lessons and God given talents to the next level in this age of modern gospel. His R&B, jazz, and gospel roots have culminated a style that is fresh and innovative. Kenny Curry has over 20 years of experience in the music industry, giving him a trained ear and pulse for the things that God is bringing forth in this new era of Gospel music.
Kenny Curry was born in Baltimore, Maryland, into a single parent home. At an early age he and his mother moved to York, SC. As the only child in the home, Kenny found himself with lots of spare time. At the age of four he began his musical journey and started playing the drums. Growing up in the South, church played an important role in his life. This led to Kenny joining the choir and becoming an active member in his church.
By the age of 15, Kenny was expanding his musical knowledge and skills by adding several instruments to his repertoire such as the keyboard and guitar. These skills allowed him to gain experience in the R&B industry. In his early 20's, Minister Curry answered the call of God on his life and began to concentrate solely on Gospel music; however, remnants of his early interests found their way into his music style.
In 1995, Kenny founded and directed the Spirit of Faith Community Choir, based in Rock Hill, SC. This group was composed of various singers from area churches and colleges. December 2001, marked the inception of Kenny Curry and Nu Spirit releasing their debut album, We've Come to Praise Him. Three albums later, Kenny has been fortunate to share the stage with many of Gospel's elites - Men of Standard, Marvin Sapp, Melvin Williams, The Clark Sisters, Yolanda Adams, John P. Kee, Donnie McClurkin, Deitrick Haddon, Melvin Williams, The Clark Sisters, LeJuene Thompson, Shekinah Glory, Hezikiah Walker, Andrea Crouch, just to name a few. This seasoned singer, arranger, and producer is ready to fulfill his destiny and his group is poised to take the Gospel industry by storm.
